December 2019: Full Moon

My Mom is a great Catholic & was touched deeply by the beauty of the church in 4th grade.  She thought about being a nun but instead became a nurse, wife & mother (in that order).  She says prayers for the people she loves & for anyone in a tough spot.  She's always ready to talk about her history, her family, her feelings, health-related issues or just about anything...unless she's in church.

She doesn't drink wine without dinner & will almost always order soup.  She points out the moon when it's full & likes to know the address or cardinal direction of places we go.  She'll take a pamphlet or any slice of interesting information with gusto.  She uses neat words like 'baliwick,' 'readily,' 'lanai' and 'davenport.'  'Jeopardy' is her favorite game show & on this visit, she somehow won every game of Farkle AND Cribbage.

My Mom laughs quietly, asks pressing questions with genuine curiosity & astutely observes.  She's focused, determined, a tad stubborn, didactically opinionated, cautiously open-minded yet spontaneous, empathetic, loyal, independent, touchingly thoughtful, generally positive & full of hope.

Memories, good feelings, comfy new sweatshirt. Marionberry pie, drives along the gorge, 24th + Fremont church, incredible Chin's food, 2 Popes, long conversations. A stop at Parkrose Chateau, lunch at the corner bar, bath soak w/salts, gas fireplaces to keep warm.
