August 2012: Curve Ball

CR & SK recently took a trip to the Bay Area to visit friends, revisit part of their pasts & just, well...experience it all, together.  Both have memories born in this part of California (CR being from the East Bay, SK attending Santa Clara University).  Acknowledging many of their similarities since meeting in April has also led them to see some of their differences; significant, important & all justifiable.  One of these two individuals is:

An ardent coffee drinker
A lap swimmer
A runner
A baseball lover
Not wary of conflict
Blessed with a tremendous memory
Most-likely tone-deaf
Able to sink pool balls
A more coordinated dancer
An only child
Interested in design, patterns, aesthetics & process
A pop culture enthusiast
Still wearing clothes from high school
Bilingual
In a book club, band & on a music trivia team
A karaoke singer
Fascinated by costume, overt sexual expression, gender bending & non-conformity
A gifted guitarist & songwriter
A not-so-gifted drummer
Accident-prone

Perhaps the most notable & stark difference between CR & SK was discovered & lived (in the flesh) during their venture south.  Simply put, it was the preference for viewing one of two very distinct playing fields.

No surprise. You and photos of naked men.

SK said...

That sounds incriminating. Especially since I could say the same thing referring artistically to your work! Kind of.

In my defense, there is just 1 other nude male shot I've posted:

So what you're saying is that CR didn't like the gay pride parade?

SK said...

Not exactly. I was just alluding to the idea that CR is preferential to baseball, while SK was (& is) to this street fair (being that she had gone to the Folsom St. Fair in her college years).

"Up Your Alley" (an off-shoot of the Folsom St. Fair) is NOT a gay pride parade, but more like an S&M exhibition with lots of people (mostly gay men) in leather, chaps, studs, netted numbers, etc. A collision of everything private (including sexual acts) made public for anyone to witness.

This release or intersection, rather, is what interests me. I like seeing & documenting how people choose to express their sexual desires, passions & excitement that is normally contained behind closed doors. It's a voyeuristic urge of mine, definitely.

Thanks for your question about clarification.

WOW! I like the narrative better than the photos! Where were you exactly?

Castro District in San Francisco (Folsom Street & 7th-12th) for "Up Your Alley" & in Oakland at the A's stadium for the baseball game.

Like the baseball ones best.

One of us was a very good sport. The other one, a sore loser. But not who you'd expect! CR knows what I mean....

Surely a perfect piece of writing! We've book marked it and sent it out to all of my friends since I know they'll be intrigued, thank you very much!

Much appreciated commentary, anonymous people!

Glad to hear this post (& site) has intrigued individuals I don't know.

Thanks for passing the word along to friends (first anonymous commenter above) & for continued browsing (second).

I'm glad some peace has been found here too. I haven't heard that one yet! Very sweet.
