June 2013: Sounds Familiar

Although CR has been to Colorado once before (while on tour with the band Mine 37 in 2002), he had never experienced Denver nor the mountain town of Winter Park.  Since SK hasn't lived there since being 18 years of age, her tour style was more personal in nature.  Included was a trip to her Alma mater (in which she got lost), sandwiches at Zorba's & Empire Dairy King, drinks at the Cherry Cricket, family night at Crestmoor, seeing childhood friends Katie (high school tennis partner), Lainie (neighbor & classmate since kindergarten) & Kath.  For a week, CR lived at 345 Gaylord & the mountain condo, in the shelters that SK grew up in, museums of lucid memories where time has stalled & change comes in curiously small doses.

Together with SK's parents, they hiked then hot tubbed, shared meals, saw a Giants/Rockies game plus a movie about magic, looked through old photos, talked past & future, never played Rummikub (sorry Mom) & drove around Denver's vast sprawl of new & old.

While it's true familiarity breeds contempt, it also births strength, camaraderie & joy.

I really like the Lounge series; you all look smashing. I have the first one hung up in my bathroom now...

Mixed feelings about my bare chest existing on the Internet...

Very well written though. :)

Is that you Dad, leaving your first commet, EVER?

Thanks for making me feel like a good writer (if only for a moment!) That's a genuine compliment coming from you, CR.

Great pictures and words. Your parents appear to know how to have a good time.

Thanks Jeff! You're right about my folks.

I'm lucky they're so easy-going; ready for any adventure, happy to host & always willing to pose.
