This year's November pandemic birthday (#42 for SK) was spent from a Wednesday to a Sunday in Cascade Head (where the cabin & hikes were), Otis (many parts blackened from this summer's fires) & Lincoln City, OR (not an idyllic beach town, hence dubbed 'frown town' except for Trillium Natural Foods). Pole House #1 was our wifi + tv-free lodging that we shared with a squirrel (he was there first, coming through a hole in the roof). We named him Alvin Ardilla & we think he rather liked having roommates even though we didn't get too close as friends. The natural world is astounding & this was a perfect place to experience it to the fullest.

That squirrel is adorable! Did it scram after the first day? Love trillium natural food co-op.
Looks lovely!!!
Hope that it was a great BDAY! With wine!!!!
I love the pole house. The living room with the wood burner looks so cozy.
Alvin stayed around for the full visit! He was quiet at night but very active (in and out of cabin via roof, gathering bedding) in the mornings around 9 or so. He came to check on us down the stairs one morning sitting by the front windows--looked right at us. He also communicated with loud chirps when I closed the rear bedroom door he was using...wild!
Oh wow, the natural world IS astounding. Great find. And a good friend found in Alvin. What a brilliant idea this was! And, will I embarrass myself to ask why it is called a Pole House?
Lincoln Shitty
Lincoln Shitty is right!!!!! No offense, anyone. Pole house is a pole house due to it's structure being that of large lumber poles throughout (see kitchen & living room photos). The cabin was lifted slightly off the ground (no foundation) and long, thick, heavy wood poles sustain the weight of the floors/walls (as far as I could tell). I've heard barns are often built this way!
P.S. We only had 1 five alarm fire (the screaming of 5 fire alarms throughout the house) on the first night. We figured out the fireplace flue quickly after that, the secret being don't touch it.
what a beautiful cabin and setting. The squirrel video cracked me up! he/she destroyed those sheets!! I don't think I've seen one that color before. I'm currently obsessed with Moss so love the mossy trees.
I forgot how much I like your blog posts! Yes, this looks just as you described it and I smiled at the photo of you feeding wood into the wood burner.
